Senior IPS officer of 1987 batch resigned for discrimination in postings

Hyderabad, July 03: Months after senior IAS officer Akunuri Murali resigned from service lamenting that there is discrimination in postings, a senior IPS officer chose to quit the service on almost similar grounds.

VK Singh, currently serving as director of Telangana State Police Academy had also announced quitting the services, unhappy with the treatment meted out to him by the government.

In his letter to Union home secretary, the 1987-batch IPS officer said he was seeking premature retirement from the service with effect from Mahatma Gandhi's birth anniversary on October 02 & also mentioned that he had joined the service with great hopes to change the police system but he thought he had failed in his ambitions.

He further wrote that the Telangana government has also not been much impressed with my services. My advice to better the services in the government also did not cut much ice. Perhaps, my opinion was not considered worth it. I have my considered opinion that I should not be a burden on the government and the government, too, should not be burdened with worthless people declaring that he would work for reforms among the people and keep serving Telangana.

Singh brought in qualitative reforms in police training, by making field work and stay in villages mandatory. As director general of prisons department, he introduced many reforms & People close to Singh say he was upset over being denied promotion to the rank of Director General of Police.
