49 arrested, 23 vehicles seized for defying prohibitory orders

Srinagar, March 23: Police in a series of action against violators of prohibitory orders issued u/s 144 CrPC have arrested 49 individuals from Srinagar, Sopore, Handwara and Anantnag.

In Srinagar, police received information regarding the gathering at Gani Memorial Stadium, Srinagar. Officers swung into action and arrested three persons in connection of violating the orders issued by the government under section 144 CrPC to prevent the spread of COVID-19.

In Sopore, ten individuals have been arrested for violating prohibitory orders u/s 144 CrPC in the district & booked 35 persons for defying prohibitory orders and seized 23 vehicles from different areas of Handwara.

Similarly in Anantnag, one individual has been arrested for defying restrictions u/s 144 CrPC.

Cases under relevant sections of the law have been registered in this regard and investigations were initiated.

Police said that general public are requested to cooperate with police in order to stop the spread of this pandemic and follow the guidelines issued by the government.

The restrictions imposed are for the greater interest of the general public. People are requested to stay at home in order to reduce the chances of spreading this virus,” said a police spokesman in a statement.
