Government committed to make J&K a sports hub: Talat Parvez

JAMMU, FEBRUARY 17: The Centre as well as the State Governments are committed to raise sports infrastructural facilities in Jammu & Kashmir and make it a sporting hub in future.

This was stated by the Secretary Higher Education Department, Talat Parvez Rohilla while inaugurating Sports Festival 2020 organized by the Higher Education Department here today.

Among others Director Colleges, Yasin Ahmed Shah; Deputy Secretary Higher Education, Vikas Bhagati; principals and staff from various Colleges and students were present on the occasion.

While appreciated organizers for holding the event in a befitting manner by providing ample opportunity to the budding sportspersons for showcasing their talent and skill, the Secretary said that efforts are afloat to raise sports infrastructural facilities in every nook and corner of Jammu and Kashmir to help budding sportspersons flourish at the National and International platforms.

Talat Parvez also assured for providing assistance to the sportspersons to help them blossom at the national and international levels and bring laurels for J&K.

He said that about 21 Colleges from district Jammu and Samba including more than 2000 students are participating in this Sports Festival. 16 types of different games like Kho-Kho, Kabaddi, Volley ball, Cricket, Table Tennis, Badminton, Tug of war, Football, Hockey etc. are going to be played in the Festival.

Addressing the participants, Director Colleges said that sports activities have a profound and significant impact on the social and mental development of our youth besides urging them to participate with more frequency in such events.

He also urged the parents to let their wards to choose sports field as the carrier avenue for their holistic development.

Later, a friendly cricket match of 3 overs was played between Secretary 11 and Director 11.
