 65th National School Games begins in Jammu; Lays foundation stone of Synthetic Football Turf

JAMMU, DECEMBER 09: Advisor to Lieutenant Governor Farooq Ahmed Khan today said that sports imbibe values like discipline, team spirit and fair play that help children develop into responsible adult citizens.

Advisor said this while inaugurating the 65th National School Games volleyball under- 17 boys, being held between 9th and 13th December at Khel Gaon, Nagrota.

Advisor Khan also laid foundation stone of Synthetic Football Turf at Khel Gaon, Nagrota.

Among others, present include, Financial Commissioner Finance AK Mehta, Secretary YSS Sarmad Hafeez, DG YSS Dr Saleem ur Rehman, SSP Rural, Secretary Sports Council.

34 Teams representing various states, educational institutions from across India are participating in the 5 day event.

Addressing the gathering, Advisor Khan congratulated the players who have come from across India to participate and compete in the sport of volleyball. He hoped that the guest teams will take back the message of hospitality and warmth from people of Jammu and Kashmir to people across India.

Commenting on the upcoming Khel Gaon at Nagrota, he said that this is an aesthetic location which has a lot of potential for being developed as a sports hub and assured of administration’s support in achieving this endeavor.

Speaking on the occasion AK Mehta appreciated the efforts being undertaken to promote sports in the state. Congratulating the department on achieving over 10 lakh participation from J&K in sports at national level and above, he said that efforts need be made to further increase the ambit and reach of sports. He said that administration will provide every support to realize the target of having a playground in every Panchayat in J&K.

He further stressed on the need to identify and facilitate sports talent from across state and assured that admin will be forthcoming, and extend support to promote local sports talent.

Earlier, DG YSS in his address, briefed about the activities being undertaken to promote sports in state. He also briefed the Advisor on proposed plan for the Khel Gaon, Nagrota and the sports facilities envisioned for the complex.

During the inaugural event, cultural programs were presented by students.

An environment sensitization pledge was also administered to the people in attendance, to promote action at an individual level.
