Govt to develop existing infrastructure instead of establishing new colleges: Naeem Akhtar

SRINAGAR, June 08:Minister for Education, Naeem Akhtar  today informed that the Government intends to develop and upgrade existing infrastructure of the colleges instead of establishing new colleges in the State.

Intervening during the Question Hour on a question of  Sajjad Ahmad Kichloo, the Minister said the Department intends to equip the existing 95 Degree Colleges with all necessary   infrastructure including buildings, laboratories, libraries  to make them fully functional. He informed that three Degree Colleges have been set up at Thatri, Chatroo and Marwah.

Earlier, Minister of State for Education Ms. Priya Sethi informed that land for the  establishment of Degree College  has been identified in Thatri and construction will be started soon. She informed that the college was established in 2011 and was made functional in the same year in makeshift accommodation. She informed that an amount of Rs 1 crore has been projected under Draft Capex Budget 2016-17 for taking up construction work of the college building.

Regarding GDC Chatroo, the Minister informed that land measuring 73 Kanals and 1 Marla has been acquired against the total compensation of Rs 1.32 crore.  She informed that the work was stopped owing to litigations by the owners of the land. She informed that during the recent District Development Board Meeting of District Kishtwar,  District Administration has assured to provide proper security to the executing agency for initiating the construction work of the college.

The Minister further stated that 61 Kanals and 15 Marlas have been identified for GDC Marwah and Rs 1 Crore has been released to DC Kishtwar as compensation of land. She informed that the DPR of  the project has been prepared and construction shall be taken up only after possession of land is taken over by the department. She said Rs 1 crore has been projected under Draft Capex Budget 2016-17 for taking up construction work of the college building.
