2.98 lakh workers registered in five years: Drabu

SRINAGAR, June 07:Minister for Finance, Culture and Labour & Employment, Dr. Haseeb A. Drabu today informed that the Government has registered 2.98 lakh construction workers under Building and Other Construction Workers’ Act, 1996 in past five fiscals.

Replying to a question of Mohammad Khursheed Alam, the Minister informed  the Board  was formed in 2008-09 and an amount of Rs 439.28 crore Cess has been collected so far.

The Minister informed that Rs 45.18 crore has been disbursed to 60,959 beneficiaries in the year 2013-14 under different welfare schemes in the state.

Haseeb A Drabu informed the House that the Special Package announced by Prime Minister on May 7, 2015 is meant for overall development of the State and as such is not be confined to any region in particular.

Replying to a question by Mr. Deldan Namgail, the Minister said that only Zojila and Lachulunga tunnels of Ladakh region are included in the package. He informed that there is no such proposal for setting up of Medical and Engineering Colleges in Leh district under the Prime Minister’s package.
