Vyas reviews transportation of essential supplies to Ladakh

SRINAGAR, June 4: To review the transportation of essential supplies including construction material to Ladakh, a meeting was convened under the chairmanship of Financial Commissioner, Planning and Development Department, B B Vyas here today.

Receiving brief account of the stock and supply  position of foodgrains, petroleum products, LPG, construction material, timber, firewood and other materials, the Financial Commissioner asked the officers to ensure hassle free transportation and adequate stock of food grains and medicines, besides building  material to Leh and Kargil districts of Ladakh region.

Among others, the meeting was attended by Divisional Commissioner, Kashmir,  Dr. Asgar Hassan Samoon, Secretary, CA&PD, Shafiq Ahmed Raina, Secretary, Transport Department, R K Bhagat, Secretary, Ladakh Affairs, and other senior officers of police and civil administration, besides representatives from  various Oil companies.

Deputy Commissioners of Kargil and Leh districts also attended the meeting through video conferencing.

The Financial Commissioner received first hand appraisal of stocks and supply positions in respect to both Leh and Kargil districts from the concerned Deputy Commissioners.

Discussing issues regarding transportation of supplies to the region, Mr. Vyas directed Deputy Commissioners of both the district to ensure adequate stock of essential commodities and other construction materials. He also asked them to submit details of requirements at an earliest so that steps to be taken for their hassle-free transportation to the region.

It was decided in the meeting that SRTC authorities would provide adequate number of trucks for carrying essential commodities/material.         Similar directions were also issued to other agencies involved in the transportation of essentials commodities, LPG and K.Oil and building material.         

The officers of CA&PD Department informed the Financial Commissioner about the status of the present quota of ration lying with the district administrations, saying that sufficient stock of ration and other essentials is available in both the districts.

Mr. Vyas instructed the MD, JK Cements and Forest Department authorities to supply cement and timber as per the demand projected by the district administration.

Officials of the Hindustan Petroleum Corporation assured that they are transporting adequate number of LPG cylinders to the area to meet the demand. Mr. Vyas also instructed Gas agencies to ensure Direct Benefit Transfer to the consumers so that consumers get LPG as per prescribed rates.

Mr. Vyas also asked the Deputy Commissioner Kargil to provide land for LPG plant so that adequate stocks of LPG is ensured to mitigate demands of the districts.

Divisional Commissioner, Kashmir, Dr. Asgar Samoon assured the Financial Commissioner for regular monitoring of the movement of supplies. He asked the DCs of Leh and Kargil to remain in touch for any other issue if arises pertaining to transportation and others.
