SRINAGAR, Aug 21: Minister for Law, Justice, Parliamentary Affairs, Relief and Rehabilitation, Syed Basharat Bukhari and Minister for Public Health Engineering (PHE) Irrigation and Flood Control (I&FC) Sukhnandan Kumar Choudhary conducted an extensive tour of Sangrama constituency. The Ministers visited Rangi, Tarzu, Haigam, Seer, Najibhat and Salam Deodar and took stock of various works taken up under PHE, Irrigation and Flood Control sectors in these areas.
Secretary PHE, I&FC, Chief Engineers PHE and Irrigation and Flood Control, ADC Baramulla besides other concerned officers and engineers accompanied the Ministers during the tour.
The Ministers during their tour inspected the breach site along the banks of Bal Khul at Rangi village, where flood waters entered in the village and damaged crops and property. They directed the concerned engineers to ensure permanent plugging of the breach, dredging and widening of the Khul to avoid any future flood threat to the area. They directed the concerned officers to prepare Detailed Project Reports (DPRs) for the same.The Ministers further called for de-silting of Chur Khul in the same area and also asked the concerned for repair of its embankments.
In view of the demand of the locals for adequate supply of potable water in the village, the Minister for PHE directed the concerned engineers to complete the tendering process for construction of the proposed overhead tank in the area so that the said issue could be addressed at the earliest.
During their visit to Tarzoo Weir, the Ministers inspected the under-construction Water Supply Scheme, Khoie coming up at an estimated cost of Rs 647.96 lakh, aimed to provide drinking water to 6 villages in the area. The Ministers were informed that an amount of Rs 171.00 lakh has already been spent on the scheme. The Ministers directed for speeding up the remaining work and tendering process for the Filtration Plant so that the water supply scheme could be completed at the earliest.
The Law Minister said an essential line for Tarzoo Weir (Khoie) WSS from Panjipora Receiving Station is required and the issue will be taken up with concerned quarters. The Ministers also directed the concerned for establishment of 3 pump stations at Tarzoo for dewatering of the inundated areas.
Responding to demand of the locals of Amarpora and Rakhi Haigam, the Ministers instructed the Chief Engineer Irrigation and Flood Control Department to raise the height of the bund appropriately along the flood channel in the area so as to prevent spill over of water into the neighboring villages.
The Ministers also inspected WSS Seer Jagir, comprising 2.20 lakh Gallon filtration plant, PST and two OHTs coming up at an estimated cost of Rs 721.84 lakh. The Ministers directed the concerned for expediting the process of approval of design of the said filtration plant.
The Ministers also visited Najibhat and took stock of the Water Supply Scheme there, which has been constructed under Urban Infrastructure Development Scheme for Small and Medium Towns (UIDSSMT) at an estimated cost of Rs 33.53 crore and will provide drinking water to Sopore town and some other villages in the area. The scheme is nearing completion and is on a trial run.
Enroute, at Wagila village, the Ministers directed the concerned engineers to further strengthen the embankments of Ningli Nallah that had breached on several points during floods.The Ministers also inspected Water Treatment Filtration Plant at Salam Deodar in Kreeri and took stock of its functioning.Later, the Ministers accompanied by MLA Baramulla, Javaid Hassan Baig also visited lift irrigation scheme at Sheeri, Baramulla.
