Naeem, Kavinder inaugurate ‘Sunjuwan Oval’ playground; Declare open Inter-School Cricket Tournament

JAMMU, Apr 27: Speaker J&K Legislative Assembly, Kavinder Gupta and Minister for Education, Naeem Akhter  declared open Inter-School Cricket Tournament while inaugurating a beautiful playground namely 'Sunjuwan Oval' at Government Higher Secondary School ground. 

Deputy Commissioner Jammu, Simrandeep Singh, who is also chairman of Jammu district  Sports Council,  Smita Sethi, Director Education Jammu, Anuradha Gupta, ADC Jammu were the guests of honour on the occasion. 

Vice chairman Jammu  district Sports Council, Ranjit Kalra, Principal HSS Sunjuwan, Prem Singh and former Ranji Trophy Player, Rajesh Gill were the special guests on the occasion. 

In his address, Mr Kavinder Gupta said that the State as well as the Central Governments are committed to promote sports activities adding that the initiatives and events like this are a step forward in producing international stuff from the State. 

Speaking on the occasion, Mr Naeem appreciated the concerned  agencies,  for taking an  initiative to develop  this ground which will provide adequate facility to sportspersons. Apart from lauding the efforts of the Army, the Department of Youth Services and Sports and the Education Department for contributing to the development of this ground, Mr Naeem specially lauded the   District Administration for leaving no stone unturned in developing this playground. He also batted for the up-gradation of the School. 

Principal of the School, Prem Singh presented vote of thanks. Meanwhile, Government Higher Secondary School, Sunjuwan and Boys Higher Secondary School Gandhi Nagar registered convincing victories over their rivals on the opening day . In the first match, HSS Sunjuwan defeated SRML HSS by 109 runs, while in another match, BHSS Gandhi Nagar defeated HSS Gole Gujral by 7 wickets. The matches were officiated by Saleem-ur-Rehman, Suresh Singh, Pankaj Sasun, Madan Mohan and Mukesh Sharma.
