Rajya Puraskar Award Ceremony of Bharat Scouts and Guides held at Raj Bhavan

          JAMMU, APRIL 27: Governor N.N. Vohra, who is the Patron of the J&K State Bharat Scouts and Guides (S&G), presented Rajya Puraskar to 277 Scouts and Guides of the State at the Award Presentation Ceremony held at Raj Bhavan here today. Mrs. Usha Vohra, First Lady; Mr. Kavinder Gupta, Speaker Legislative Assembly; Dr. Nirmal Singh, Deputy Chief Minister; Mr. Naeem Akhter, Minister for Education, Mr. Jahangir Mir, DG Youth Services and Sports and other dignitaries were presented Scout Scarves on the occasion.

          The Governor congratulated the recipients of the Awards and wished them bright careers ahead. He lauded the valuable work being done by the functionaries of the J&K State Bharat Scouts and Guides.

          Speaking on the occasion, the Governor stressed the need for enlarging the resource base for giving a significant boost to the activities of Scouts and Guides movement in the State to bring a much larger number of youth under its ambit.

          The Governor thanked the Education Minister for allotting the building of Government Middle School Satwari to enable the Scouts and Guides to locate their Headquarters there. He hoped that this will help in giving a fillip to the Scouts and Guides activities in the State.

          Suggesting measures to boost S&G activities in the State, the Governor stressed creation of an adequate corpus fund and organizing Jamborees in the far-off districts of the State for reaching the students in these distant areas.

          Mr. Naeem Akhter, Minister for Education and President, J&K State Bharat Scouts and Guides, shared his experiences of being associated with Scouts and Guides movement during his school days and highlighted the importance of such activities in shaping a sound mind in a sound body. He assured the Movement of all required help to forge ahead.

          Earlier, the Governor unfolded the Scouts and Guides Flag and the Scouts and Guides presented the Prayer and the Flag Song. The students displayed yoga asanas  and demonstrated first aid drill on this occasion.

          Ms. Roma Wani, Senior Vice-President, J&K State Bharat Scouts and Guides, presented the Welcome Address and Ms. Nasreen Khan, Advisor, J&K State Bharat Scouts and Guides presented a Vote of Thanks.

          Mr. I. D. Soni, State Commissioner, J&K State Bharat Scouts and Guides; senior functionaries of the organization; and a large number of Scouts and Guides and their leaders were present at the function.
