SRINAGAR, Mar 09: Advisor to Governor, Mr Parvez Dewan on Wednesday said the government is keen to reach out to the needy cancer patients in the State.

“I along with my colleague and friend, Khurshid Ganai have been discussing this issue with the Governor. We will soon come up with some relief for needy cancer patients of the State,” Dewan told the people, who had come to meet him at Banquet Hall here.

“We have a sizable population of distressed cancer patients in our State and we are keen to reach out to them with some relief. They should feel that someone is there to share their pain,” he said.

Dewan, who was hearing the case of a woman cancer patient here, said the society at large should come forward for the help of the needy cancer patients.

He said in order to save the expenses of individual applicants and deputations from Kashmir, the Governor had decided that the Advisors will travel to the summer capital frequently to redress the people’s grievances.

Meanwhile, several deputations called on the Advisor and apprised him of their problems. People put forth their demands pertaining to Health, Education, Technical Education, road connectivity, drug addiction, and other issues.

The Advisor gave a patient hearing to the projected demands and asked the concerned officers to take adequate measure for time bound redressal of the same.

A delegation of Doctors Association Kashmir (DAK) led by its president Dr Nisar-ul-Hassan also called on the Advisor and demanded government intervention into the menacing issue of spurious drugs. The delegation informed the Advisor that drug market was unchecked and unregulated and no serious effort was being made to curb the menace. The Advisor discussed the implementation of drug policy for ensuring availability of free and quality drugs to poor patients in government hospitals.

The Advisor will continue his public hearing tomorrow from 11.30 am to 1.30 pm at PWD Guest House, Parraypora, Srinagar.
