SWB celebrates Women’s Day at Kot Bhalwal Jail

JAMMU, Mar 8: Jammu & Kashmir Social Welfare Board (SWB) in collaboration with J&K Prisons Department celebrated Women’s Day at Central Jail, Kot Bhalwal.

Chairperson J&K State Social Welfare Board, Dr. Nirmal Gupta was the chief guest while Director Doordarshan Kendra Jammu,  Anjali Sharma was the guest of honour on the occasion.

During the programme a counseling programme through professional counselors of Family Counseling Centers was organized by the SWB and inmates were also provided training on cutting, tailoring and fashion designing through the trainers of the Board so as to enable them to enhance their skills.

Speaking on the occasion, Dr. Nirmal Gupta said that the counseling and other skill development programmes are being organized to provide the requisite social and psychological support to the female inmates. She also informed that, this year the theme for Women's Day  is ‘Pledge for Parity and therefore SWB took an initiative to support the female prisoners.

Addressing on the occasion, Ms Anjali Sharma said that such programmes help to establish a social link with these inmates and help them to become good citizens.

Inmates of the jail presented bhajan and folk songs on the occasion. Gifts were also distributed among the jail inmates. 

Among others who were present on the occasion includes Executive Director and Secretary, SWB, Aamir Ali, Superintendent Central Jail, Kot Bhalwal, Dinesh Sharma, Medical Officer, Dr Rimpy, counselors of FCCs, craft teachers and staff of Prison Department and SWB.
