CS chairs maiden joint conference of DMs, district SPs in J&K

JAMMU, March 05: Chief Secretary B R Sharma Saturday chaired first of its kind conference of District Magistrates and District Superintendents of Police of Jammu division here.

Director General, Police, K Rajendra, Principal Secretary Home, R K Goyal, ADGP (CID), S M Sahai, Divisional Commissioner Jammu, Dr Pawan Kotwal, Commissioner Secretary GAD, Gazzanfar Hussain, IGP Jammu Zone, Danesh Rana, Commissioner Civil Military Liaison, J P Singh, Director Defense Estates, Northern Command and other senior officers of police and home department were present on the occasion.

Addressing the conference, Chief Secretary said the District Magistrates and District SPs have been handling issues in the respective districts very well which adds to their responsibility to come up to the satisfaction of the public. He said they have added responsibility in view of the Urban Local Body and Panchayat elections coming up.

Highlighting the importance of role of DMs and SPs in the districts, he said it is important for them to remain accessible to the public, redress public grievances and also come heavy on issues relating to the menace of corruption. Chief Secretary also spoke on the role of district administrations in the implementation of National Food Security Act (NFSA) in the State.

Appreciating organization of first of its kind meeting where both DMs and SPs of the district were brought together, Chief Secretary said that it helped focus attention on important district specific issues that were flagged during the meeting. He added that such an arrangement helps focus and address issues, and foster better relations between the two critical institutions of civil and police administration which is important for any state.

DGP while speaking on the occasion complimented the DMs and district SPs for handling situations well in their districts. He said such synergy needs to continue and strengthen further. He said it is important to remain prepared and alert with numerous challenges coming up including ULB and Panchayat elections. He asked the concerned to have regular meetings with members of the civil society, to be accessible to public and to be prompt in redressing public grievances.

The DMs and SPs briefed the meeting through presentations on issues mainly including law and order,  status of cases relating to compassionate appointments under SRO 43, regularization / vacation of land under the unauthorized occupation of Security Forces/ Army, status of requisition/ acquisition of land held by security forces /army, status of implementation of National Database of Armed Licenses Scheme, issues relating to PSA, NDPC Act, removal of encroachments on National Highway, status of implementation of SHRC and those of the Empowered Committee of Home Department and Civil and Military Liaison Conference decisions implementation.
