JAMMU, March 5: The State Government has sanctioned the posts required for establishing the office of Commissioner for Persons with Disabilities (PwDs). The approved posts include the Commissioner.
It would be recalled that the State Administrative Council chaired by Governor N.N. Vohra, had approved the proposal in its meeting held on 25th February, 2016.This was a long pending demand of the PwDs in the State and in the past several years the Governor had heard several deputations of various Associations of the disabled in this regard. The creation of this office will help in providing prompt redressal of problems of specially abled persons.
The Governor has issued directions for actively pursuing all matters relating to rehabilitation and facilitation of PwDs. In this context it is to be noted that the State Revenue Department has recently sanctioned transfer of a piece of over 23 kanals of land to the Social Welfare Department (SWD) for establishing the Composite Regional Centre (CRC) for Persons with Disabilities (PwDs). The establishment of this office and of the CRC shall satisfy a very long pending demand from Persons with Disabilities (PwDs) in J&K.
