 DGP reviews crime scenario in Jammu Zone

 

 

JAMMU, Feb 06: Stressing on adopting innovative methods to expedite the investigation of criminal cases, the Director General of Police (DGP), Mr. K. Rajendra Kumar has said that professional policing at grass root level in the State would be revamped to enhance proficiency of cops in crime investigation. He said that the mechanism should be revisited for fruitful and speedy investigations.

       

Mr. Rajendra said this while chairing a meeting of officers of Jammu Zone at Zonal Police Headquarters here today. The meeting was convened to review the crime scenario in Jammu Province and discuss different methods to improve professional functioning for better deliverance.

 

DGP stressed for improving techniques of investigation by adopting the latest technology and conclude the cases on merits for judicial determination. He said that our priority should be to ensure better public deliverance and rule of law in every corner of the State. “Community policing is mandatory to gain public confidence which would help in our fight against crime and social evils”, he added.

       

Referring the criminal activities, DGP stressed upon the officers to brace up with a missionary spirit to fight against drug abuse and realize the dream of a crime free society. He asked for crime mapping with an intent to establish pattern and factors of crime, which could lead to identity of criminals.

       

At the outset of the meeting, the IGP, Jammu, Mr. Danish Rana briefed the meeting about crime scenario in Jammu Province. He apprised about the achievements and action taken in different areas to curb the crimes and criminal activities.

       

Range DIsGP informed the meeting about the preventive measures for eradication of crimes and execution of warrants issued by different courts. District Superintendents of Police of the Zone through their power presentations gave detailed resume of crime scenario in their respective jurisdictions and targets achieved during the year 2014-15. In their presentation they delivered on different aspects of crime including action taken against drug abuse, hawala money, crime against women, Motor Vehicle Act, NDPS Act, COPT Act and inquest proceedings.

 

Mr. Rajendra asked for fruitful preventive measures to check the crime rate in the society and book the criminals under relevant provisions of law. He said that progress of the investigation should be reviewed at different levels to ensure timely conclusion of the cases. He said that progress of the cases should be shared with the higher offices to keep the records updated. Coordination among the investigators and the prosecutors should be strengthened to achieve desired results in the investigation of crime cases. For better improvements prosecution officers are posted at different places to provide   required legal guidance to the investigating officers at different levels, the DGP added.
