KATHUA, Jan 09:District Development Commissioner Kathua Ramesh Kumar today convened a meeting of Zila Lok Shiksha Samiti (ZLSS) to review the progress made under Saakshar Bharat Mission in the District .In the meeting, threadbare discussions were held with regard to implementation of Saakshar Bharat Mission, a centrally sponsored scheme launched for eradicating illiteracy and to create a literate society through variety of teaching learning programmes for non-literate and neo-literates.
HOD DIET Basohli apprised the meeting about the Mission and progress made in the district. "The committee has been constituted in district, block level and panchayat level for proper implementation of the mission for achieving the envisaged objectives,"he informed. He further said that the department had provided proper training and orientation courses to motivators, Block and district coordinators for achieving target under the mission.
DDC reviewed the performances of the block and district committees, and percentage of survey done by the field staff. DDC asked the committee members to make comprehensive plan to target drop out students with special emphasis on female students. He impressed upon the members to ensure establishment and functioning of the Adult Education Centers (AEC's) in their respective areas.
DDC gave direction to BDO’s and ZEO’s to coordinate for setting up of AEC’s and laid stress on the strengthening of Panchayat level committees which can help in identification of illiterates and would also help in setting up of AEC’s. CEO was directed to sensitize ZEO’s about the objectives of SBM, setting up of AEC’s.
While focusing on planning for volunteer teachers, DDC directed CEO, ZEO to involve and motivate the volunteer students of secondary and higher secondary classes to educate the illiterates of their locality. “These students can be the best volunteer teachers for check illiteracy ,” DDC further added. BDO’s were directed to submit the Utilization Certificates and ZEO’s and block coordinators were directed to coordinate with BDO’s for timely disbursement of honorarium of Preraks.
The District Coordinator informed the meeting about the requirements for making the institutions functional with required infrastructure. He stressed upon the committees to achieve 100% coverage under household Survey.
DDC also directed the ACD and CEO to hold meetings of BDOs and ZEPO's for smooth implementation of the programme. He exhorted upon the BDO's to convene meetings with Block coordinators of their respective areas.Among others CPO Kathua, CEO, ACD,DPO, BDO’s, ZEO’s ,ZEPO’s were present in the meeting.
