Dy CM, Speaker joins Gurupurab celebrations at Bibi Chand Kour Gurudawara in Jammu

JAMMU, Jan 5: Deputy Chief Minister, Dr Nirmal Singh has said the teachings of Guru Gobind Singh Ji are more relevant today and we should ensure that teachings are passed to the future generations.

The Deputy Chief Minister was speaking at a function organized to celebrate Gurupurab – birth anniversary of Guru Gobind Singh Ji - at Bibi Chand Kour Gurudwara in Jammu today.

Speaker Legislative Assembly, Mr Kavinder Gupta, MLC Charanjit Singh Khalsa, Ms Mamta Singh and prominent citizens, intellectuals and thousands of devotees were present on the occasion.

The Deputy Chief Minister while describing Guru Gobind Singh as a multidimensional personality said that sacrifices rendered by him would be remembered for times immemorial. He said we should all follow the teachings of the Guru for leading a peaceful life as these are more relevant in today’s age of materialism.

Dr. Singh said that Guru Gobind Singh also laid the foundation of the code of ethics for Khalsa which is one of his  most important contributions, besides he also wrote hymns of praising the virtues of Khalsa living  which include his voluminous poetry. He said that he also raised voice against the forces of suppression and was also responsible for creating social order based on equality and devotion to God.

While referring to the demands raised by the people present, the Deputy Chief Minister said the he would take up the issue of setting up of Shri Guru Gobind Singh Chair in Jammu University with the Union Human Resources Development Ministry so that this long pending demand is addressed. He said the government would also take up the matter of introducing Punjabi subject in schools and colleges with the concerned.

The Deputy Chief Minister said that the government is committed to ensure that the minorities get all the requisite opportunities in employment and other related things.

Speaker Legislative Assembly while speaking on the occasion highlighted the historical role of the Guru and said that his message and the teachings should be taught to the young generation so that they can get benefitted from it. He said Guru’s contribution is historic and his teachings are everlasting.

While responding to the demands projected, the Speaker announced Rs 10 lakh out of his constituency development fund for installation of the statue of Baba Bandha Bahadur Singh at Kunjwani. He also said that the issue of introducing Punjabi subject at school and college level would be taken up with the concerned.

MLC, Charanjeet Singh Khalsa also spoke on the occasion and highlighted the historic contribution of Guru.
