PATHANKOT, Jan 02: Four gunmen have been killed as the Indian military thwarted a pre-dawn attack on an air force base in Pathankot town of Punjab bordering with J&K.
Three soldiers at the Pathankot base were also killed in a gun battle lasting several hours.
The whole of Punjab state has been placed on alert.High alert has been sounded in jammu 7 Kashmir and especially in Kathua district and entry into the state from neighbouring Punjab at Lakhanpur is being monitored and checked.
The gunmen wore Indian military uniforms and drove a hijacked car when they launched the attack at 03:30 AM in the morning. They entered living quarters at the base, but were contained there and so were unable to cause any damage to military hardware.
