8810 violators booked during last 3 months in Srinagar & Jammu: IG Traffic

JAMMU, Dec 12: As a part of special drive against traffic violators, Jammu and Kashmir Police has initiated stern action against all those parking their vehicles wrongly thereby obstructing the smooth movement of traffic in the cities and major towns across the State.

As per the new mechanism devised to further streamline the traffic management by the Traffic Headquarters, it has been observed that wrong parking is one of the major reasons for traffic congestion and slow movement of traffic particularly in the cities. The Traffic Police has been consistently taking action against those indulging in wrong parking on the roads and during the last three months, about 8810 vehicles have been booked for this violation in the cities of Srinagar and Jammu.

As per a communication issued by the Traffic Headquarters here today, the traffic police will deal with the violators of such offenses more stringently to create deterrence. The new measures empower traffic cops to paste a Notice on the vehicle being parked wrongly or obstructing the traffic movement, calling upon the owner of the vehicle to report in the office of the concerned SSP Traffic within 15 days for paying the requisite fine for the offence under law.  If the owner of the vehicle does not report in the office of the concerned SSP Traffic during the stipulated period, then the (owner) violator shall be identified by the Registration Number of the vehicle and Challan shall be submitted to the court by the SSP Traffic concerned.
