Minister visits Fruit Mandi Kanispora, hands- over allotment letters of 85 shop-sites

BARAMULLA, Dec 12: Terming the Horticulture sector as the backbone of the rural economy, Minister for Horticulture, Hajj and Auqaf, Abdul Rehman Veeritoday called for introducing new technology-driven initiatives in horticulture sector to boost productivity. 

Addressing people during his visit to Fruit Mandi Kanispora here today Baramulla, Veeri said the present government has launched various novel initiatives for the growth and expansion of the horticulture sector to give a fillip to the rural economy.

MLA Rafiabad, Yawar Dillawar Mir, District Development Commissioner Baramulla, Yasha Mudgal, Director Horticulture Planning and Marketing and other officers were also present during the function.

 “New initiatives like mixed cropping have to be translated into reality amid new challenges in the horticulture sector,” Veeri said and added that introduction of high-yielding crop varieties and high density plantation would go a long way in boosting production.The Minister said that cold storage facility is being provided in every area of the state to increase the life and marketability of various fruits. He said an advanced laboratory is being also established in Srinagar to boost the efficiency of the horticulture sector.

He said Kanispora Fruit Mandi will be brought to the level of one of the best Fruit Mandi on war-footing basis and would be made fully functional soon.The Minister also announced allotment 85 shop sites to the stakeholders at Kanispora Fruit Mandi. He also interacted with various deputations of fruit growers and gave a patient hearing to their demands and issues.
