Govt schools asked to frame calendar of activities


JAMMU, SEPTEMBER 09: The Education department has asked all government schools to frame their   individual academic calendar of activities and strive earnestly to achieve the set targets.

The instructions were issued by Joint Director Education, Charandeep Singh, while interacting with staff of government schools during series of inspections conducted during past one week. 

While laying stress on all educational institutions to have their individual academic calendar of activities in right from the beginning of every year, he said that even academic auditing is required to be carried out for having a fair assessment of targets achieved and shortcomings, if any, to cover deficit and put in place a fine learning system for the benefit of student community.

 The inspections were conducted to monitor flagship programmes of education department.

The Joint Director also laid emphasis on improving upon Mid Day Meal (MDM) scheme so that children get nutritional food served in most hygienic manner. Schools which were inspected include SRML Higher Secondary School, Government Higher Secondary School, Ramgarh and Government High School, Kachi Chawni besides offices of ZEO Bhalwal and Purmandal.

 Laying emphasis on adopting scholastic and co-scholastic activities hand in hand, the visiting official also asked teaching community to interalia adopt Basket Pedagogy – principles and methods of instructions for keeping along the potential learners. This, he said will open up new vistas for learning and enable children to pick up more ably. Activity based learning, with less stress on giving only facts and figures, he added enables one to learn quickly which must be introduced in every lecture.

Issuing instructions to the school heads,  Joint Director   said that while smart class rooms should be kept open for students, yet a close vigil be kept for monitoring vulnerabilities of internet like Blue Whale Challenge which is proving quite detrimental. Asking teaching faculty to imbibe teaching spirit and own the institutions, he said that available infrastructure must be properly numbered, stocked and judiciously utilized so that government’s property is not damaged and remains accounted for.

Appreciating school staff of some of the institutions for encouraging debates, seminars and quiz programmes for different age groups, the education official during his tour also suggested to include syllabus besides general topics in these competitions so that the students while learning about general knowledge also prepare for their academics. All heads of the institutions were also asked to keep a track of students who had passed out of schools and extend all possible help to them so that they could pursue their further studies and contribute in society positively.
