Congress Observes Quit India Day in Jammu

JAMMU, Aug 9: JKPCC held an impressive function in connection with 75th year of Quit India day, today.

 

         The function held at Congress HQ Jammu was presided over by Shri G.A. Mir and attended by all senior functionaries of PCC besides AICC nominees, leaders of Frontal organizations, DCC and BCCs of Jammu district and other senior leaders of the party.

 

         The party senior leaders recalled the freedom struggle and the contributions of Mahatma Gandhi and other stalwarts of INC and the entire Rank and file of the party, who went to jails and suffered and sacrificed on the call of Mahatma Gandhi, issued on the evening August 8,1942 at Bombay session of congress, to launch “Bharat Choro Andolan” from August 9, 1942.

 

         Mahatma Gandhi and all senior leadership of Congress was taken to jails but lacs  of people came out on the street on this day on the call of Mahatma Gandhi, which was final assault of freedom struggle and ultimately forced British to go.

 

         Addressing the gathering PCC Chief G.A. Mir remembered the freedom fighters and entire stalwarts of congress under the leadership of Mahatma Gandhi, who were arrested but the countrymen forced the British Rulers to ultimately Quit India. He also recalled Smt. Indira, a young leader also plunged into this movement, when entire leadership was put into jails. He regretted those who portray themselves to be ultra-nationalist and question the congress party and its leadership, had no role on the freedom struggle. He also lauded the leadership of the Congress Party from time to time, which created and established strong institutions of democracy, as a result the Election commission of India took a historical decision last night establishing the supremacy of rule of Law. He also cautioned the workers about the dangers to the democracy in the country and attempts to vitiate the atmosphere in the State and asked them to remain vigilant about the designs of communal and divisive forces.

 

         Senior Vice-President Sh. Sham Lal Sharma, Vice Presidents Mula Ram, Raman Bhalla and AICC nominees Deepak Rathode besides Chief Spokesperson Sh. Ravinder Sharma and DCC President Anil Chopra Spoke on the occasion. Prominent those present include Kanta Bhan, M.S. Niaz, Ch. Mohd. Akram (MLA), Rajnish Sharma, Shabir Ahmed Khan, Manmohan Singh, Balwan Singh, Vikram Malhotra, Manjit Singh, Shah Nawaz Choudhary, Namrata Sharma, Faqir Nath, Vijay Yadav-DRO, Kuldeep Raj Verma, Parkash Sharma, G.L. Chalotra, Y.V. Sharma, Maheshwar Singh, Indu Pawar (Mahila President) B.S. Sambyal (Seva Dal Chief), , Pranav Shagotra (PYC President), Neeraj Kundan (NSUI President)

   

Sham Lal Sharma while speaking on the occasion remembered the great leadership of Mahatma Gandhi and congress stalwarts of the time and recalled the sufferings and sacrifices of lacs of countrymen under the leadership of Gandhi ji and Congress Party. He questioned the role and contributions of those who now raise questions about congress party. He also cautioned about the dangers and challenges before the party and people of the State and cautioned the people about attempts to disturb the social fabric of the State by the exploitative and opportunist forces and parties.

 

Shri Raman Bhalla also recalled role of congress leadership during freedom movement and raised questions about the other parties and organizations to explain their role and contributions in the freedom movement. He asked   who were the leaders and organizations who had questioned the Quit India move of Mahatma Gandhi in 1942.

 

Shri Deepak Rahode recalled the five weapons and principles of Mahatma Gandhi in the freedom movement, especially truth and Non-violence and said that Congressmen are proud to be part of this great party which struggled, sacrificed, achieved freedom and established strong roots of democratic values in the country.
