NEW DELHI: Two Army personnel, including a major, were martyred in an encounter with terrorists in south Kashmir's Shopian district on Thursday morning, Police said.
After input about the presence of terrorists in Matribugh Zoipora village of the district (Shopian), a cordon-and-search operation was launched by a joint party of 62 RR of Army, Special Operations Group of Jammu and Kashmir police and Central Reserve Police Force.
The hiding terrorists opened fire after security forces moved towards the site and the encounter between the security forces and terrorists is currently underway.
Hizbul Mujahideen has reportedly claimed the responsibility of the attack.
