JAMMU, Nov 26:The Deputy Chief Minister, Dr Nirmal singh today directed officers to ensure that the benefit of various welfare  programmes and schemes percolate to the targeted populace, so that the motive of the scheme gets fulfilled.The Deputy Chief Minister was addressing officers during a review meeting of the schemes being undertaken by the Rural development Department and PHE department.

The meetings were attended by commissioner/secretary RDD, Mr. Khurshid Ahmed Shah, Director Rural Development, Jammu, Mr M.L.Raina Member Secretary MGNREGA, Mr Kuldeep Siddha, ACD, Kathua and other senior officers.

The deputy chief minister directed the officers to speed up the pace of various development schemes of the department like MGNREGA, IAY, Swach Bharat Abhiyan , so that the people of the area get benefitted from them . He said that these schemes have a tremendous potential of changing the rural landscape by elevating the socio-economic profile of the people living in the area by providing the much needed job opportunities at the doorstep besides, creating the requisite infrastructural facilities .

It was given out in the meeting that under MGNREGA an amount of Rs.9.73 core has been spent out of the allocated amount of Rs. 11.89 crore by taking up 2620 works. Similarly, 430 dwelling units have been taken up under IAY his year in the constituency

Under Swacch Bharat Abhiyan 1152 individual household latrines have been taken up out of the 2311 sanction units. It was also given out that the solid liquid waste management plant would be set up in Billawar so that effective management of the waste is done besides it would also be producing fertilizer and bio-gas.

The Deputy Chief Minister directed the officers of the RDD to take immediate measures for identification of the land for the proposed plant so that the people of the area get benefited from it. He said that it is the endeavor of the government to provide clean and safe environment to the people living in rural and far flung areas and  similar projects  would be taken in various  other villages of the State as well.

Earlier the Deputy Chief Minister also took a review of the PHE schemes in Billawar area. The meeting was attended by Chief Engineer PHE and other senior officers of the department.

Dr. Singh directed the officers to speed up the pace of implementation of the ongoing new water supply schemes being constructed by the department so that the people living in the area do not face any water shortage and get adequate supply of potable water. He said that several other new schemes would also be undertaken in the constituency.

It was informed that out of the total 13 water supply schemes being undertaken in the constituency, 07 have been completed and the other would be completed this year. 08 new schemes under NRDWP would also be taken up soon to augment the schemes as well.
