UDHAMPUR, MAY 23: Deputy Commissioner Udhampur Minga Sherpa today chaired a meeting with officers of the line departments to review pre-monsoon and flood preparedness measures across the district.
During the meeting, detailed discussions were held on several critical aspects related to disaster preparedness and emergency response.
These included cleaning and desilting of drains, nallahs and water channels, establishment and functioning of integrated control rooms, daily reporting mechanisms during the monsoon season, monitoring of river gauge levels and seasonal water channels, identification of flood-prone, landslide-prone and other vulnerable areas.
The meeting also reviewed preparedness regarding awareness programmes and mock drills, fogging operations and preventive measures against water-borne and vector-borne diseases, availability of essential commodities and medical supplies in vulnerable areas, conduct of Swachhta drives and awareness campaigns and ensuring safe and potable drinking water supply during the monsoon season.
The Deputy Commissioner issued necessary directions to all concerned departments to remain fully prepared and maintain a high level of readiness to respond promptly to any untoward situation or emergency during the monsoon period.
Stressing the importance of inter-departmental coordination, the DC directed all departments to maintain close liaison and ensure effective communication for timely and efficient emergency response.
Departments were further instructed to assess the requirement of rescue and emergency response equipment and submit a detailed inventory of essential resources needed for effective disaster management and rescue operations.
Meanwhile, Deputy Controller Civil Defence was directed to conduct regular mock drills to strengthen preparedness and enhance response mechanisms for any emergency situation in the district.
