Srinagar, Nov 1: City Judge Srinagar Abdul Bari sentenced former Managing Director of the JK Cooperative Central Land Development Bank Limited, Muhammad Shafi Banday and imposed a Rs 5,000 fine on him after he was found guilty for the offences for, he was tried to two years of simple imprisonment and imposed a fine for manipulating his date of birth to unlawfully extend his tenure of service.
As per the prosecution, the case originated from a communication received by the Crime Branch Kashmir on October 15, 2012, alleging that Banday had shown his date of birth as September 1, 1939, instead of 1934, by producing a fudged certificate.
Departmental verification later confirmed the manipulation through multiple official correspondences.
The investigation revealed that Banday had overstayed in service by more than seven years, thereby obtaining undue financial benefits and causing a loss to the state exchequer.
Subsequently, the Crime Branch Srinagar registered FIR No. 49/2007 against him for causing disappearance of evidence, cheating, forgery with intent to cheat and using a forged document as genuine under the Ranbir Penal Code.
After completion of the investigation, a chargesheet was filed before the competent court, and formal charges were framed on August 26, 2013. Following the trial, the court convicted Banday and awarded punishment to him.
