J&K Youth Congress “Yuva akrosh yatra” stopped in Srinagar, leaders arrested

SRINAGAR,Nov 03: Seeking attention of the Chief Minster Mufti Sayeed and of the Prime Minster Sh. Narinder Modi who is about to visit Kashmir, about the unsettled issues of youth of the state, Pradesh Youth Congress today took out a massive rally as part of the Yuva Akrosh Yatra in Srinagar. Scores of youth congress workers and people from all walks of life participated in the Yatra, which started from the Congress Office at Mulana Azad Road in Srinagar.

The Yatra faced stiff restrictions and resistance from the police force as the police did not allowed the PYC workers to proceed to Lal Chowk and other areas of the City. Hundreds of youth congress workers broke the police hurdles at Mulana Azad Road and moved toward Women College, where police resorted to force and mishandled the PYC leaders and workers including PYC Chief Pranav Shagotra.

In spite of the repeated requests and assurance from that the rally will be totally peaceful, JKP on the instruction of BJP-PDP government did not allowed the Yatra, resulting in altercation after which police arrested scores of PYC activists  including PYC Chief and took them to Kothi Bagh Police Station, where the arrested leaders continued to protest.

It is pertinent to mention here that taking an aggressive stand against the recently adopted requirement policy of the BJP-PDP government and  supporting unsettled issues of thousands of daily wagers, NYCs and other educated unemployed youth, PYC started Yuva Akrosh Yatra seeking the attentionof Chief Minster, Mufti Mohd Sayeed.

After receiving a huge response from the public in Jammu and Ladakh provinces of the state during the first and second phase, “ Yuva Akrosh Yatra”  a mass movement organised by Pradesh Youth Congress, against the  growing unemployment and other youth related issues, has reached to Kashmir Valley, yesterday in Barmulla for the final phase of the Yatra. Today is the second day of Yatra in Kashmir.

The Yatra will be concluded tomarrow in the South Kashmir region at Anantnag town and Sh. Ghulam Ahmed Mir President JKPCC and Sh. Suraj Hedge Secretary AICC incharge IYC  will also participate besides thousands of Youth Congress workers urging the government to scrap the recent recruitment policy and address the other youth issues.

Addressing the  the gathering, PYC chief lambasted the government for neglecting the youth of the state and for its failure in settling the issues of Daily wagers, ITI workers, NYCs and SPOs and added that these kind of attacks from police force will not deter PYC to fight for the cause of youth of the state. He termed his arrest as a conspiracy of BJP-PDP government to stall the Yuva Akrosh Yatra as the government is afraid to face the truth and PYC will expose the lies of this government.

He further added that under this BJP-PDP government terrorists, separatists and antinational elements are roaming free, while they are arresting the mainstream opposition political workers for raising voice for the welfare of the youth of the state.

Meanwhile, a large number senior Congress leaders and Youth Congress activists have strongly condemned the force used on the peaceful protestant of the party in Srinagar today and the arrest of scores of workers and leaders including the state president of Youth congress. The leaders have warned the government to restrain from snatching the democratic rights of peaceful protests.
