8 arrested for illicit distillation, 1250 Kg of Lahan destroyed in Jammu zone


Eight arrested for illicit distillation, 1250 Kg of Lahan destroyed

 

  JAMMU, Oct 30: On the direction of the Minister for Finance, J&K, Haseeb Drabu, Excise Commissioner, J&K, T Angchuk and under the active supervision of Deputy Excise Commissioner, (Executive), Jammu, the Excise sleuths conducted series of raids in various district of Jammu Division to check the menace of illicit distillation of liqour.  In District Kathua, one person namely Devinder Kumar son of Balkar Chand resident of Dambra, Kathua was arrested in connection with illicit distillation of liquor and from his possession 700 kg of lahan was recovered which was destroyed on spot by the Excise sleuths.

 In District Udhampur, one lady namely Ashri Devi wife of Krishna resident of Sera Morh, Latti was arrested and 70 kg of lahan was recovered from her possession which was destroyed on spot by the Excise Sleuths. The Eradication and Enforcement wing of the Excise and Taxation Department, Jammu also conducted raids in District Jammu and Kathua and arrested four persons in connection with illicit distillation of liquor. 380 kg of lahan and seven bottles of illicit liquor were recovered from their possession and destroyed on the spot.

Similarly in District Kishtwar, the Excise Sleuths arrested two persons in connection with illicit distillation and recovered 200 kg of lahan and two bottles of liquor from them which were also destroyed on spot.

 All the arrested persons have been booked under section 48 (a) of the J&K Excise Act, 1958 and cases against them shall be lodged in the competent Excise Courts. The Department has initiated multi-pronged strategy to arrest the menace of illicit distillation of liqour.  Inspection teams have been activated and there shall be no laxity for those who violate the law.
