Ready to withdraw pellet guns if Bar Association takes step to stop violence in Kashmir: Supreme Court

S. Sidartha Paramedical Training Institute, Sunjwan, Jammu

SRINAGAR,  Apr 28 : The Supreme Court on Friday said it would order immediate withdrawal of pellet guns, if the Jammu and Kashmir Bar Association took one positive step in stopping violence, agitation and stone throwing in the state, reports said.

“If confrontation continues, no conversation can continue. If you keep throwing stones and burning down schools, nothing would happen. If we direct withdrawal of pellet guns, you tell us what are the steps that you are going to take,” a three-judge bench presided over Chief Justice J S Khehar told the association as per reports.

The court said the Bar Association can't say that the problem is complex, it is the minor player and the whole state is involved into it. “This is (going to create) history. You can play a role and you will be remembered for times to come,” the bench, also comprising Justices D Y Chandrachud and Sanjay Kishan Kaul told a host of counsel, representing the state bar.
