LAKHANPUR (KATHUA), APRIL 12:- The traffic department today devised a comprehensive plan to ease congestion at Lakhanpur toll post and its peripheries.

  In this regard a meeting was chaired by IGP Traffic J&K, Jagjit Kumar, at Lakhanpur. The meeting was aimed to discuss the traffic management at Lakhanpur and involve all the stake holders to address the issue of traffic congestion.

The meeting was attended by D.C. Excise, Rajesh Sharma, DC Sales Tax, Punit Sharma, SSP Kathua, Pawan Parihar, SP Traffic Rural Jammu Ms. Shaheen Wahid, Dy.SP Traffic Samba/Kathua and other officers of concerned Departments.

The meeting suggested various effective measures for the management of traffic at Lakhanpur.  After threadbare discussion it was obseved that heavy flow of HMVs into State and lack of parking space at Lakhanpur force the truckers to park their vehicles at Lakhanpur bridge.

It was decided that parking of vehicles shall not be allowed on Lakhanpur bridge and instead all the vehicles shall be parked in the parking yard in an orderly manner;

The   SHO Sujanpur was asked to allow the HMVs in batches towards Lakhanpur, on daily basis, which shall be communicated to him by the Excise Department/J&K Traffic Police at Lakhanpur. This will further help in checking the traffic congestion at Lakhanpur;

Vehicles fitted with PA system shall be pressed into service and deployed at appropriate places warning the truckers not to indulge in road side/ wrong parking.

Possibility of increasing the parking space for incoming vehicles at Madhavpur shall be explored by the SHO Sujanpur. Similarly, possibility of increasing the parking space for outgoing vehicles at Lakhanpur shall be explored by the SSP Kathua.

The Excise and Sales Tax Departments were asked to revisit the present Agent system at Lakhanpur. In order to improve the system, it should be ensured that agents shall play their roles only when the HMVs enter the yards.

It was ordered that delineators shall be erected 01 Km. ahead of Lakhanpur town to pave way for parking of trucks in a single lane so that Lakhanpur market is not affected; The strength of Traffic Police staff at Lakhanpur shall be augmented for effective traffic management.
