Women empowerment key to progressive society: Sham Choudhary


JAMMU, MARCH 20 – Minister for PHE, Irrigation & Flood Control Sham Lal Choudhary today said women empowerment is necessary for the development and progress of the country. The more the women will be empowered the more the country will make progress.

 The Minister was speaking during a one-day seminar being organized by Social Welfare Department (SWD) to create awareness among the people about various schemes being implemented by the department for the welfare of women and girl child at Social Welfare Complex in RS Pura.

Speaking on the occasion, the Minister said that the government had taken many initiatives to bring women to the mainstream but lot more is to be done for empowerment of women. He said that women hold an important place in our society and their empowerment would signal a positive turnaround in our society.

He further said the girls of this country have proved time and again that they can achieve anything in this World, if given an opportunity and proper guidance. The government will do the handholding of each and every girl child in the State and will also provide them moral and financial support to achieve their dreams, he added.

The Minister said that both the governments at the Centre and the State are committed for the empowerment of women and various welfare schemes have been launched for ensuring the same including Ladli Beti Scheme, Indira Gandhi Matritva Sahyog Yojana (IGMSY) and State Marriage Assistance Scheme.

On the occasion, the Minister distributed bank account passbooks among 750 women of RS Pura under Ladli Beti Scheme so that they don’t face any difficulty in receiving the money for the upbringing of their girl child. He also distributed study kits among 70 girls who will also receive 50 hours computer training in different camps at Chakrohi and RS Pura being organized by the SWD under Rajiv Gandhi Scheme for Empowerment of Adolescent Girls, Sabla.

          During the seminar, the people were informed about ‘Go Cashless, Go Digital’ campaign and Swachh Bharat Abhiyaan. The common masses were educated about the benefits of using digital transactions and the ease, with which money can be transferred from one account to other with just a click.

SDM, RS Pura Sushil Kumar, CDPO, RS Pura Jasmeet Singh and Professors of Govt. Degree Colleges, BMO and other senior officers of the department were present in the seminar.
