J&K Govt responsible for Raj Kumar's death: Congress

SRINAGAR, Oct 10: Senior Congress leader, G. M Saroori blamed the government for the death of Raj Kumar National Youth Corps (NYC) Member while continuing their hunger strike for more than a month.

NYC members had been staging an indefinite hunger strike, demanding implementation of cabinet order passed by Congress-NC government for the regularization and asking for the justice with 6000 NYC members.

Raj Kumar was part of hunger of hunger strike and breathed last at his ancestral house Kishtwar after he left for Kishtwar few days back when his condition got worse at Partap Park Srinagar. His death has angered Congress leader.

Saroori said the government should own the responsibility for Raj Kumar's death. The NYC members were denied justice by PDP-BJP government as the government became reluctant to face a challenge to respond their demands. The chapter of justice process was closed in the state from today when Raj Kumar was forced to accept death, Saroori said. Now, there is no rule of law in J&K state, Saroori summed up.

Saroori also condole the sad demise of Raj Kumar. He expressed his heartfelt condolences to the bereaved family and prayed the Almighty to give courage of the family to bear this irreparable loss.

Taking a serious cognizance of tardy post-flood rehabilitation process, regularization of Daily wagers, NYC’s, killings of innocent people, an apathetic approach adopted by the union government towards fiscal needs involved therein, Congress legislator from Inderwal Ghulam Mohammad Saroori today raised on the floor of the Assembly to extend the Assembly session in view of present precarious situation facing people of Jammu and Kashmir.

“The dismal scenario of rehabilitation of flood victims, paltry central assistance for flood victims, marginal importance to flood protection mechanism, precarious power situation, lack of development on ground, regularization of Daily wagers, NYC’s, killings of innocent people, Pakistani shelling and other host of public interest issues have made it imperative for the government to extend the session of the assembly,” Saroori said.

Saroori said that it is highly unfortunate that government in J&K have failed to hold sufficient number of sittings or debates on issues of public interest, legislation and budgets.

He said the number of in Srinagar was reduced during Ghulam Nabi Azad tenure in Srinagar, when the Assembly complex catches fire. The Assembly complex was rebuild and is now completed but the habit of holding sessions with fewer average days than the sessions of Parliament is taking a heavy toll on issues with huge public importance. It is advisable that the government extend the Assembly session to discuss these issues and come up with the solutions,” the Congress leader asserted.

Saroori also wrote a letter to Speaker J&K Legislative Assembly Kavinder Gupta for the extension of this Assembly session.

Later Chief Minister on the floor of the Assembly assures that i want a consensus in the House for having two sittings every day from next session so that the members can raise the issues of their people," Mufti added.
