JAMMU, Oct 07:A massive protest demonstration was held at Shaheedi Chowk Jammu today and effigy of State Government was burnt over the issue of imposing Service Tax on the Helicopter Service to Mata Vaishno Devi Yatra, failure of government to fulfill the demands of Daily Wagers/Casual Labours, C.P. Workers, NYC Volunteers & need base workers in different departments and other agitating workers and curbing the voice of opposition in the House.
A large number of Congress leaders and prominent Congress workers led by PCC leaders including S/Shri Sham Lal Sharma-Sr. Vice President; Raman Bhalla, Mula Ram, Smt. Kanta Bhan (Vice Presidents); Thakur Balwan Singh, Shabir Ahmed Khan, Sdr. Manjit Singh, Manmohan Singh, Vikram Malhotra (General Secretaries); Kuldip Raj Verma, Shiv Dev Singh (Ex-MLA); President DCC Jammu (U) Anil Chopra; Krishan Lal Gupta; Shiv Kumar Sharma (INTUC); Secretaries Shashi Sharma, Neeraj Gupta, Pawan Raina, Pawan Singh, Surinder Gupta, Thomas Khokhar, Manjit Singh Jatt; Ch. Sukh Dev Singh; PYC President Pranav Shagotra; President NSUI Neeraj Kundan; Satish Sharma; B. B. Gupta, Madan Lal Malagar, Dr. R. K. Khajuria, J.L.Kaul, Om Prakash, Vijay Sharma, Chameil Singh, Dewan Chand, Rakesh Bhagat, Kulbushan Sharma, Amrit Bali, Gourav Chopra, Ashwani Handa, Smt. Santosh Sharma, Smt. Prabha Salathia, Smt. Ch. Santosh, Smt. Sita Devi, Smt. Geeta Devi and others held a strong protest demonstration against the PDP-BJP Coalition Government in the state over the issue of imposing Service Tax on the Helicopter Service to Mata Vaishno Devi Yatra, failure of government to fulfill the demands of daily wagers, casual workers, I.T.I. trained workers, C.P. Workers, need base workers in PHE and different other departments and NYC volunteers.
Addressing the gathering the PCC leaders lashed out at PDP-BJP Coalition Government for its utter failure on all fronts. They said that the BJP which claims to be the champion of Jammu people has betrayed the mandate of the people by taking U-turn on all vital commitments made with the people of the state, especially Jammu region during elections. They said the State Govt. has imposed Service Tax on the Helicopter Service to Mata Vaishno Devi Yatra with the consent of BJP leadership in the State. The govt. is not fulfilling the demands of agitating workers of different departments and NYC volunteers, P.H.E.- I.T.I. trained daily wagers, C.P. Workers, need base workers who are one strike for the last several weeks and instead of fulfilling the promises made by them during the elections, the BJP-PDP trying to divide the people of the state on region and religion lines and vitiating the atmosphere of peace in the state.
The PCC leaders appreciated the role of the Congress legislators in both the houses who are raising various issues of the people of these regions including the imposing of tax on pilgrims, denial of adequate relief and rehabilitation to the rain and flood affected people, the issues of agitating workers and employees, the deteriorating law and order situation in the State, especially in the Valley, the faulty PDS and hike in power tariff for the common consumers. They said that Congress would continue its fight both inside and outside the State Legislature over the issues of people of three regions and different sections of the society and expose the failure of the coalition Govt. on various fronts.
