Mahjoor Nagar Bridge to be completed by Eid-ul-Fitr: Naeem

SRINAGAR, MARCH 02: Minister for Public Works, Naeem Akhtar, today conducted an extensive tour of Srinagar city to take stock of progress on various ongoing core developmental projects and set deadline for each of the works for their time bound completion.

Accompanied by DC Srinagar, Chief Engineers of R&B and PMGSY, MD JKPCCC, and other concerned officials the Minister inspected work at TRC Grade Separator being constructed near Radio Kashmir Srinagar. He was informed that the work on the project will be completed by the end of December 2017. It was said that with the completion of the project, traffic congestion issues would be addressed to a large extent.

The Minister also visited the under-construction Mahjoor Nagar Bridge and took stock of work being carried out at the site. He said that the bridge will be an Eid gift for people as it will be inaugurated on the eve of Eid-ul-Fitr in June this year.

While inspecting the construction work on Jehangir Chowk-Rambagh flyover, Akhtar asked the concerned executing agency to expedite the work so that it can be completed at the earliest and benefit people at large.  He was informed that the flyover project will be completed by the end of the year and it will be a great boon for the mobility in the city. He was further informed that more laborers and machinery is expected in the next two weeks which will give a stimulus to the pace of work.

At the under construction drainage project in Panthachowk, the Minister ordered the executing agency to complete the work by the end of March so that the commuters do not face any inconvenience. He also inspected four laning of the National Highway project, where he was informed that work on Gallander-Bypass stretch will be completed soon as majority of earth filling work has been finished. He also took stock of four laning of road from Nehru Park to Kralsangri which would also have a have a separate cycle track too.

He also visited the under-construction Vyethpora Bridge near Badamibagh Cantonment. Terming the project as one of the most beneficial ones for the city he said that once the bridge is completed by the end of the year, it will give relief to commuters entering the city and would act as a parallel route for them. He said completion of the bridge will greatly decongest the busy Sonwar-Dalgate section of the city.

Later, Akhtar also visited the Dastgeer Saheb Shrine at Khanyar where he reviewed the progress of ongoing beautification work. He directed the officials to take in regard the aesthetics and religious value of the place.

He urged the officials and contractors to adopt latest technology to speed up the work on all the ongoing projects. He said that by completion of all the projects it will enhance infrastructural setup of the city and increase capacity building for overall development of the Srinagar district.     The Minister said that in addition to these projects around 1000 kms of new roads will be thrown open in the current year and it will be a boon for rural areas too.
