JAMMU, Sep 24: The Pak-sponsored act of terrorism targeting Indian Army establishment at Uri in which 18 brave soldiers were martyred has thoroughly exposed the BJP-led ruling coalition both at the Centre and Jammu and Kashmir. It is shocking that they have chosen to ignore the martyred Dogra regiment soldiers and their families despite their public proclamations on nationalism.
In a joint statement issued here today senior Congress leaders Dr Manohar Lal, former Minister, Mr Ashok Sharma, ex-MLA, and Mr Mohinder Bhardwaj, member executive committee Pradesh Congress Committee, said the unfortunate incident has blown the mask of nationalism off the BJP leaders’ face. Most appalling has been the treatment of utter neglect meted out by these leaders and their Governments to the martyred soldiers of Jammu region.
Paying glowing tributes to the brave hearts, they expressed shock that the two martyred soldiers of the state and their families have been totally neglected by the state government in which BJP is a leading partner and claimant for all the “good work” being done. Most of the state governments have firmly stood by the families of their martyred soldiers and provided relief and honour to them while the Jammu and Kashmir government has preferred to look the other way.
“We have been forced to take up this issue in the greater interest of the country and society and with no intention to politicise it. We demand the state government should immediately provide monetary relief of Rs. 25 lakhs, each to the families of the soldiers and employment to one of the members of the family in the state with honour and dignity. Failing which the right thinking people of the society would be forced to take to the streets as this insult to the martyrs and their families would not be tolerated,” they said.
Terming the attitude of the state government particularly that of the BJP Ministers and MPs/MLAs as appalling and despicable, the three leaders wondered as to how they have conveniently forgotten the soldiers, who have made the supreme sacrifice and their families. This is quite contrary to the chest thumping by the BJP leaders, ministers and legislators in the name of nationalism.
They said BJP’s nationalism was nothing but hypocritical which has been thoroughly proved by their attitude towards the martyrs. The silence of the Chief Minister and other PDP Ministers on remembering the martyrs of Jammu is understandable as it explains their mindset but people of Jammu region are shocked by the attitude of BJP leadership.
The BJP’s silence is ironic given the fact that it has a Minister of State sitting in the Prime Minister’s office and two more MPs. This apart Deputy Chief Minister Mr Nirmal Singh and his party colleagues in the Ministry also seem to have conveniently forgotten their duty towards the martyrs. Even, BJP Govt. at the centre has already failed in attending the demand of one rank one pension.
They owe an apology to the people of Jammu region for hurting their nationalistic feelings, the leaders demanded.
