JAMMU, Aug 16:Pressing for the need to promote Social forestry and plant more trees, Speaker State Assembly and MLA, Gandhi Nagar, Kavinder Gupta while touring Belicharana area of his constituency said that the attention of the people should be brought to this crucial issue as it is the need of the hour.Locals have been demanding a park for their locality from a long time as they don’t have any green patch in their area; where they can sit, do walk or relax during the morning or evening hours. Gupta promised them that a park with all modern facilities will be developed in the area which will be beneficial for the people of all age groups.
As the population is increasing at a rapid pace, forcing the people to migrate to new places as there is hardly any space left in the old cities, new colonies like Belicharana are coming up very fast, this is helping the people in building homes for themselves but the negative part about this is; it is increasing the pressure on the environment, he said.In order to preserve the environment, the ecological balance of the planet should be maintained and stress should be laid on the management & protection of forests; with a forestation on barren lands with the purpose of helping in the environmental, social and rural development.
Gupta called for joint efforts of civil society and administration to ensure that more and more trees are planted and special initiatives are taken to give a clean and green environment to our future generations and creating environmental awareness among all sections of the population. Anil Manhas, Lucky Manhas, Antu Kotwal, Bal krishan, Zaheer Abass, Anies Chowdhary, Sanjeev Bhat, Rohini Sharma, Mohd. Maqbool were prominent among others who accompanied the Speaker.
