Women Commission Headless Since June 20

Srinagar, August 9: The State Women Commission has been headless since its last chairperson resigned about seven weeks ago with the fall of the coalition government.

Nayeema Mehjoor, who was appointed the Chairperson on June 24, 2015 for a period of three years, resigned on June 20. However, the Governor administration is yet to appoint a new chairperson for the commission, which has consequently become ineffective.

Officials said that we only register cases that require a court hearing, such as domestic violence and marital disputes. All others are forwarded to the authorities concerned and not registered here.
