Stop Playing Politics Of Deception On Kathua Episode: PDP To Congress

JAMMU, APR 16 : Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) on Monday launched a scathing attack against the Congress and other political parties in Jammu and Kashmir over playing dubious role in Kuthua murder case and hoodwinking masses at large . The PDP’s Srinagar district President and Upper House Member, Mohammad Khurshid Alam in a statement said that the dubious role being played by the Congress over the Kutua case is condemnable and the party once again has proved beyond doubt that it is carrying on with its legacy of running with the hare and hunting with the hound. Alam said that at a time when in open several leaders of the Congress party in Jammu defended the people who committed the heinous crime, party’s leadership in New Delhi continues to project itself as peoples’ savior. “The fact has been revealed to one and all that the Congress party has left all moral ground to claim its representative character as it has maintained a stoic silence about its leaders taking part in the pro-rape and murder rallies,” Alam said, adding that even the party chief on record tried every bit to come in rescue of the main culprits of the case. “The party chief has on record defended those who committed the heinous crime against an eight- year old little girl in Kuthua. If the central leadership of the Congress has a bit of morality left, it must crap whip against the persons in question,” Alam said. The PDP district president added that there are even those leaders of the Congress party in Kashmir Valley who are maintaining a stoic silence over the shameful episode of Kuthua and didn’t even muster courage to ask the party leaders to stop defending the indefensible. “Earlier, these leaders were heard crying for the peoples’ wellbeing and then were seen changing sides. Present time was the litmus test for them in which they all in unison failed miserably,” Alam said. He added that the invincible courage and determination of the chief minister Mehbooba Mufti has been dawned upon every single person across the country and it is she who is standing on the ground firmly to give exemplary punishment to the persons involved in the gory Kuthua incident. Alam further asked the Congress to stop playing the politics of deceit and deception as the people all across have now become aware about its policies and trickery measures. (PTK) Poor implementation of laws national concern : Save the Children over Asifa SRINAGAR, APR 16 (PTK): In the aftermath of rape-and-murder of an eight-year-old nomadic girl in Kathua earlier this month, ‘Save the Children’, an international non-governmental organisation that promotes children's rights, on Monday said poor status of implementation of laws is an issue of urgent national concern. In a statement issued today, the children rights watch said: “Save the Children condemns the rape cases that have shocked the country with their brutality, and we also condemn all forms of sexual violence against children.” It said while the Indian Government has enabled progressive laws like Protection of Children from Sexual Offences (POCSO) Act, 2012 and the Criminal Amendment Act, 2013 but the poor status of implementation of such laws, as reflected in the cases of Kathua, Unnao and Surat, is an issue of urgent national concern. “Occurrence of sexual violence, particularly, in India that fosters belief of perceived male superiority unknowingly sets an inferior status for its girls and women, is one of key findings of Save the Children’s forthcoming flagship report “WINGS 2018 -- World of India’s Girls: A study on the perception of girls’ safety in public spaces”, to be launched in May 2018,” the statement said. Quoting some of findings of the report, the statement said the beliefs and practices (as perceptions) on safety of girls in public spaces, wherein the onus is not only with the laws but also with the families and communities towards ensuring girl’s safety. “Both under-reporting of cases as well as slow redressal are obstacles in achieving enduring results to end violence and harassment against children.” “ There is an urgent need to: strengthen the policing, legislation and judicial structure, with focus on effective execution and strong response mechanisms; have effective public mobilisation against gender-based violence; and, ensure shared accountability at all levels - including government, judiciary, civil society, media, communities and individuals to end violence against children,” the statement added.
